Thank you for choosing Waterbabies Swim School for your child. We are a developmental program, and children are taught according to their individual needs and abilities. Our experience is that children learn best and have the most fun in small group classes, learning together, progressing together, in a supportive lively atmosphere. Children learn by watching others and by testing their own abilities within that structure.
Classes are taught in 5-week sessions with children attending 1, 2 or 3 days per week for a 30 minute class. Level 1-3 classes have a maximum of only three children per class! Level four/five may have four to five swimmers enrolled. Our pool is always heated to a wonderful 90°. We do not overbook our classes and are usually filled to capacity. Once you start swimming, you have the option to continue classes with the same time/day and teacher, by pre paying each session at least 30 days in advance. We will adjust class levels as the students’ progress.
Children ages 2+ are welcome to swim in a regular class without a parent; children under age two can attend a class with a parent in the water. The reason for this is we do not want to encourage unnecessary crying due to separation anxiety that peaks between 18-24 months of age. We will give you the caregiver the skills to teach your own baby, at your own pace. Our emphasis is on swimming and safety, not singing and dunking! Your baby can transfer to a regular class when you and the instructor feel he/she is ready. This accomplishes much more swimming than weeks of crying!
We are a small swim school, and offer unique individualized attention to each group of kids. The children all progress at their own rate within the class structure. We believe in class consistency, and do not reserve classes too far ahead, as it is difficult to estimate the progress and level required for each child. We also believe in duration. When you sign up, consider keeping your child enrolled for at least three sessions in a row. Children need that length of time to develop their skills, practice the skills, and then the skills become permanent. Babies should continue lessons until they have developed the ability to swim, which can occur as early as 18-20 months independently! Swimming is a developmental skill, learned similar to reading. We read to our children every day, and then we teach the words and sound, then they assimilate this to letters, then they start to read. This does not happen overnight, or without practice.
The Waterbabies Method
Our teachers utilize a proven curriculum and methodology to successfully work with all personalities of babies and children. We offer small class size, warm water, and an environment of playfulness that encourages the children to go beyond their perceived limits. Children receive individual attention in a positive learning environment filled with praise and love. At Waterbabies Swim School, we recognize that all children do not learn the same way, or progress in exactly the same timeline, or are even able to learn with the same teaching style. We have adapted our program to encourage teaching methods that include all learning styles and personalities. We offer small, semi- private classes, starting our babies at 5 months of age and continuing to completion with advanced stroke refinement. If you have any questions or concerns that cannot be addressed by email or phone, we encourage you to drop by and watch our teachers in action!
